The MEDSTAT Group/Inforum
Position: Senior Technical Writer & Intranet Developer/Administrator
Location: Nashville, TN.
Time Frame: October 1996 to February 1998
My position at the MEDSTAT Group/Inforum included four areas of responsibility. One, I was the sole developer and administrator of Inforum’s Corporate Intranet Site. Two, I took raw marketing data and transformed it into web pages for use on the company's Internet site. Three, I created and maintained everything from paper training manuals and brochures to on-line documentation for Inforum’s Family of Products, which include Outcomes Analyst, Demand Modeling, Community Profiling and Health Plan Management. Four, I was responsible for the management and accountability of all technical writing resources at the MEDSTAT Group/Inforum.
Management Responsibilities
- I used Microsoft Visual SourceSafe 5.0 to manage all of Inforum’s electronic technical writing resources, including paper manuals, on-line documentation, Intranet HTML files and Computer Based Training (CBTs) demos.
- During a period of reorganization, I was responsible for the orientation and supervision of a new technical writer, including project management.
- I identified new software and technological resources.
- I identified available technical writing-related training courses and seminars.
- I was responsible for informing management on technological trends and on-line documentation.
Technical Writing Responsibilities & Duties
- Using Doc-To-Help and Microsoft Word, I created and maintained on-line documentation for the Inforum Family of Products, including Outcomes Analyst, Demand Modeling, Community Profiling and Health Plan Management.
- I created an assortment of brochures and manuals, including The Inforum Quick Reference Installation Guide—the corporation’s primary publication distributed with all software.
- I was responsible for creating and maintaining Inforum’s Technical Writing Resource Guide & Documentation Standards.
World Wide Web Development & Administration Duties
- Using Microsoft FrontPage98 and Novell Server 3.12, I was Inforum’s sole developer and administrator of the company’s Corporate Intranet Site.
- I met with department heads and key company personnel to identify a variety of resources that would benefit the overall organization and place those resources on the Intranet. These resources included such things as On-line Help files, Computer based Training (CBTs) demos, executable files and files from such Microsoft applications as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher and much more.
- I worked with company leaders to develop and maintain content for use on the company's Internet site.
